Children

The Children's Ministry of WHUMC strives to offer a safe and creatively imaginative kids ministry where kids and their families come to know, serve, and share Christ in the world.

Sunday School is offered from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. to children three years of age and older.  All children are welcome.

Teaching is done by teams of wonderful volunteers who plan are prepare each weekly class. Currently the curriculum that is used to guide the lessons is Cokebury's Grow, Proclaim, and Serve!  Each week is focused on a different Bible story.  The children learn the story, make connections, and share in an activity that extends their learning.  Materials are provided each week for the parents, as well.

Each teacher is Safe Sanctuary trained. In support of the ministry shared by these volunteers, the Education Work Area has initiated a set of Guidelines for Appropriate Behavior that has been approved by our Church Council and is available from any teacher.

Preschool

Classes are on the lower level of the Education Wing. Currently, we have a combined class for 3 to 5 year-olds in Room E-106. The children have an hour session which includes many activities such as music, storytelling, arts and crafts, and more.

Kindergarten – Grade 5

Classes are on the upper level of the Education Wing. Children gather for a 10-minute opening session which includes a video of the week's Bible story in Room E-306 before dividing into age-levels for Sunday School. The ages pair up as Kindergarten and Grade 1, Grade 2-3, and Grades 4-5.

Additional Events

At the beginning of Lent, the families were provided with materials to 'count down' to Easter with their children.  Family time is encouraged to do a daily devotion, sharing of good deeds, and more.

Vacation Bible School

VBS is offered every year for children ages 3 – Grade 5.  Come for extended lessons, crafts, music, recreation and snacks based on a common theme. This program is open any interested families.  This year VBS will take place June 17-21st.  Mark your calendars.

Safe Sanctuaries

Webster Hills UMC has a commitment to create a Safe Sanctuary that reduces the potential risk of injury or abuse to infants, children, youth and adult volunteers who participate in our church activities. Webster Hills UMC will:

  • Adopt reasonable safety measures for the selection and recruitment of adult volunteers with children and youth
  • Provide education for adult volunteers with children and youth regarding the church’s policy and procedures as well as the reporting requirements of the State of Missouri
  • See that our classrooms are staffed with trained adult volunteers

A copy of the complete Safe Sanctuaries Policy and Procedures is available in the church office.

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them, for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.” Matthew 19:14
